  18. <p>     Rampaging floodwaters continued to wash catastrophe across
  19. the Southwest last week, the Trinity River wreaking havoc from
  20. Dallas southward while the swollen Arkansas and Red rivers
  21. pitched into homes and fields in Arkansas, where Governor Bill
  22. Clinton declared 29 counties disaster areas. At the
  23. Texas-Oklahoma border, waters rushing out of overfilled Lake
  24. Texoma ravaged a popular summer restaurant-disco-and-marina
  25. complex. By the weekend the unruly Trinity was menacing East
  26. Texas with still larger troubles. "The river's going crazy,"
  27. said National Weather Service hydrologist Ernest Cathey in Fort
  28. Worth. As it inundated immense swaths of ranchland, stranding
  29. herds of livestock and driving out hundreds of families, the
  30. Trinity at times looked like a vast lake. To people in its
  31. path, especially in Liberty County, 50 miles or so northeast
  32. of Houston, officials issued a blunt warning: "Get out now."
  33. A most discouraging word came from Trinity River Authority
  34. spokesman John Jadrosich, who said floods may linger through the
  35. summer in a "mega-natural disaster."
